COURAGE: The True Superheroes
COURAGE COMES IN ALL SIZES —
In the news this week: Teen activist Malala Yousafza is awarded the top human rights prize by the European Union! Will she win the Nobel Peace Prize next? My guess is “yes!” Malala is only sixteen but when she was fourteen she stood up to the Taliban, advocating the right of education for all children. Even an assassination attempt and a series of surgeries have not deterred her.
WHEN MALALA SPEAKS, WE LISTEN —
“AFRAID OF NO ONE”
Whether Malala is on the Daily Show or addressing the United Nations, she’s articulate, forthright and wise way-way-way beyond her years. Hearing Malala’s melodious inflection, I am reminded of the optimism of Anne Frank and the dream of Martin Luther King. The courageous among us see the big picture clearly, regardless of age. They step into the fire willingly, courageously, superhumanly automatically.

Angelina Jolie: A Warrior in Real Life
The sad news about Debbie Martin, Angelina Jolie’s Aunt, has stayed with me since I read the email alert hours ago. It’s like every day an onion is unpeeling, and we’re getting a glimpse into a very private and painful part of Angelina Jolie’s life.
That Girl’s Got Guts!
I’m in awe of Angelina Jolie’s COURAGE as she faces her genetic challenges head-on. If we were in her shoes would we? Could we? There’s no way to know. Courage is required in-the-moment. We don’t know if we’ll meet the requirement until we’re called upon.
I’ve loved and lost someone extremely close to me to Ovarian Cancer. It’s tough on everyone. Beyond… My heart goes out to Angelina Jolie and her family now that they’ve lost two loved ones to this awful disease.
Moments like these seem to put everything into perspective. Read the rest of this entry »
ACTORS: DIY
Just saw RUBY SPARKS – so honest, deep, true and a little tough when you’re not quite ready for it. The show-stopping risky scene toward the end made me go WHOA big time. Not surprisingly, Zoe Kazan wrote her great scene herself. She wrote and produced this little Fox Searchlight gem with her BF Paul Dano, who starred in it with her. How ROMANTIC! How PROACTIVE! How GENIOUS!
Directing DESTINY –
Actors (especially YOUNG CREATIVE WOMEN Actors-turned-MULTI-HYPHENATES) have started putting their destiny into their own hands. It seems like it’s the only way to keep from being a puppet, waiting for someone to pull strings.
Next weekend Rashinda Jones’ CELESTE AND JESSE FOREVER is being released. Jones co-wrote, produced and (incidentally) is starring in it – destiny in her own hands…
Krysten Ritter did it with LIFE HAPPENS.
Maybe we should all make our own —
- LIVES HAPPEN
- CAREERS HAPPEN
- HAPPINESS HAPPEN.
If this is a trend,
I LIKE it.
I want to LEARN from it.
I want to TRY IT!
Shop – Eat: LONDON & PARIS
Flew home yesterday on Virgin Atlantic, my new favorite airlines. As I pulled out my copy of Fifty Shades Darker (part 2 of the 3-part rage Fifty Shades of Grey), three Flight Attendants suddenly became my new best friends–
All the ladies are reading it!
I can’t put it down!
I’m fifty shades of red!
It was a fun way to end a fun trip…
Loved London and Paris, even though it was necessary to carry an umbrella at all times. I lucked out on the weather though — it really didn’t rain that much – more like twenty-minute showers. So it was easy to get around and and make lots of new discoveries. For me traveling involves walking-walking-walking. It’s the best way to see everything and get a sense of what’s where. I always lose weight on trips, no matter how good the food is (and in France it IS!).
My favorite time to walk is in the early morning hours when a city is just walking up. Read the rest of this entry »
Six Degrees, Serendipity and… Whoa I did not expect that!
I love when people surprise me…
Last night I loaded my reel into Dropbox and sent myself a “test” link to see if it would work. But it didn’t. So I emailed Aaron, my super-nice Mac tech. Read the rest of this entry »

MOONRISE KINGDOM – a magical movie
MOONRISE KINGDOM…
This coming-of-age Wes Anderson fairytale has all of the elements a really good movie. It’s funny with a touch of tragic. It’s fresh, charmingly romantic and deeply sincere. Extraordinarily beautiful to watch, every frame is a lovely painting we’d love to hang on the wall. As we peek through each window, we can’t wait to go in.
Connecting with the sweetness of Happy/Sad
We smile for all 94 minutes, while rah-rah-rooting for misunderstood SOULMATES –Suzy (Kara Hayward) and Sam (Jared Gilman). We experience their desire, their pain and the powerful genuine-ness of FIRST LOVE. Read the rest of this entry »
