Mixed Messages for Valentine’s Day? (Thanks a NOT!)

a certain someone

No need to consult my CRYSTAL BALL about Valentine’s Day. I’ll be getting countless contradictory verbal and nonverbal romantic riddles from Dr. Adam — same as last year, only more of ’em.

It’s exhausting trying to figure out how he can sound closed-off, as he stands ultra-close. I’m not talking about some of the time, I’m talking about all of the time. And no, I’m not imagining it! He actually leans into my body when he says, “Do me a favor and get some ice.” – (No it’s not for our chilled drinks, it’s for an icebag for a patient!)

He’s a perfectly proper Physician whenever anyone’s around in the ER, but then very flirty when no one’s watching.  So does he or doesn’t he: Like me? Love me? Get me? Need me? Want me? Hey, I don’t even know if I want him – unless I get to pick the version I want.

Giving Thanks

Thanksgiving smells like my Mom. When the turkey’s in the oven, I swear my Mom’s still around. Her marinade of ketchup, cooking sherry and water makes the turkey crispy and the entire house delicious – all day, all night and even a little the next morning.

Keeping up with the Traditions —

My job is picking up the Turkey from Harvey’s Guss Meat Company (I order it in October). Harvey supplies meat to restaurants, so his hours are early — 7:00 AM to 12:00 noon. The day before Thanksgiving there’s not much traffic in the early hours (thankfully) and it’s especially wonderful when like today, the air’s a little chilly (by L.A. standards) and the sky’s blue-blue. DIY Trick or Treat

Hole-y Halloween

Feeling a little HAUNTED by a current lack of SOMETHING?  (Should I blame the lack of attention from a certain doctor on the SHAKING EARTH — my lack of Auditions or FRANKENSTORM?)

“Too Much Time on our Hands” can be SCARY!

If you’re like me and too-in-your-head you might be able to TRICK YOURSELF with these GOOFY PROJECTS.  Oh no! I can see you’re already giving me the “UCH!” face — okay sure, maybe it’s a little lame but it’ll be funnnnn! And you’ll make people SMILE : ) Plus, with everything so expensive Halloween-wise, you’ll be glad to know these ideas are inexpensive (at the most you’ll need to run to CVS) — some are free if you have the stuff.  So get out your drill and glowsticks and give yourself some TREATS.

go out on a limb

HANDS-DOWN FAVORITE: Fill a latex-free glove with water and freeze before floating it in cranberry juice OR do it in reverse for a bloody hand effect (freeze the cranberry juice and float it in water). Read the rest of this entry »

ACTORS: DIY

are you listening?

Just saw RUBY SPARKS – so honest, deep, true and a little tough when you’re not quite ready for it. The show-stopping risky scene toward the end made me go WHOA big time. Not surprisingly, Zoe Kazan wrote her great scene herself.  She wrote and produced this little Fox Searchlight gem with her BF Paul Dano, who starred in it with her. How ROMANTIC! How PROACTIVE! How GENIOUS!

Directing DESTINY –

Actors (especially YOUNG CREATIVE WOMEN Actors-turned-MULTI-HYPHENATES) have started putting their destiny into their own hands. It seems like it’s the only way to keep from being a puppet, waiting for someone to pull strings.

Next weekend Rashinda Jones’ CELESTE AND JESSE FOREVER  is being released. Jones co-wrote, produced and (incidentally) is starring in it – destiny in her own hands…

Krysten Ritter did it with LIFE HAPPENS.
Maybe we should all make our own —

  • LIVES HAPPEN
  • CAREERS HAPPEN
  • HAPPINESS HAPPEN.

If this is a trend,
I LIKE it.
I want to LEARN from it.
I want to TRY IT!

Six Degrees, Serendipity and… Whoa I did not expect that!

it's always there

I love when people surprise me…

Last night  I loaded my reel into Dropbox and sent myself a “test” link to see if it would work. But it didn’t. So I emailed Aaron, my super-nice Mac tech. Read the rest of this entry »

MOONRISE KINGDOM – a magical movie

romantic tweets

MOONRISE KINGDOM…

This coming-of-age Wes Anderson fairytale has all of the elements a really good movie. It’s funny with a touch of tragic.  It’s fresh, charmingly romantic and deeply sincere. Extraordinarily beautiful to watch, every frame is a lovely painting we’d love to hang on the wall. As we peek through each window, we can’t wait to go in.

Connecting with the sweetness of Happy/Sad

We smile for all 94 minutes, while rah-rah-rooting for misunderstood SOULMATES –Suzy (Kara Hayward) and Sam (Jared Gilman). We experience their desire, their pain and the powerful genuine-ness of FIRST LOVE. Read the rest of this entry »
