2013-14 PILOT SEASON – I’m Over it!

Ugh!

This is the first Pilot Season where I’m just not invested.  Trying to figure out why.  More and more, it feels like the business side is overruling the creative side with FORMULAS being the FOCUS and that depresses me. It’s all about WHO THE NETWORKS WANT TO BE IN BUSINESS WITH – big name directors, big name talent. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t, but the emphasis on big name talent has changed Pilot Season for Actors like me. There are fewer and fewer opportunities if your name isn’t big.

BIG UGH!

And with all of the second-guessing and recasting, it’s even more stressful and exhausting. That’s part of it, but things just haven’t seemed the same since they stopped printing DAILY VARIETY. I miss my hard copies! I miss reading them leisurely over lattes and I miss caring about any of it!

I’m thinking about getting into MUSIC or FASHION or PHOTOGRAPHY – anything other than Acting, because living from one Pilot Season to the next SUCKS!

2013-14 Pilot Season RECASTS: An EPIDEMIC?

Christina Ricci would've been great!

Why the rush to recast?

What the F@#K is going on with the daily RECASTS? It’s outta control! Apparently no one’s safe — even if your name is BIG. Execs who rushed to pull the trigger early can’t stop rethinking, reloading and making nervous ACTORS nervous-er!

TABLE READS = TROUBLE

NBC Comedy Pilot ‘Holding Patterns’ Recasts Role

Jane Adams Exits NBC’s Craig Robinson Pilot

Christina Ricci Exits NBC Pilot ‘Girlfriend In A Coma’

Mercedes Masohn Exits ABC Pilot ‘Mixology’

It’s like getting the WORST FEEDBACK ever!!!

“Rising recasts” started last year, but now I feel like things are escalating. Blame it on TECHNOLOGY or JOB INSECURITY or the change from TESTING TO TAPING, or the rush to sign a BIG NAME without knowing if he or she is really right for the project. Not sure of the cause, but whateverRead the rest of this entry »

20 Kindnesses (pass them along)

extraordinary

Never “woulda thunk it” till I was forced to volunteer in the ER, but the best way to get out of your own head is to do something for someone else. It takes the “me” out of the equation and it gives you a feeling of accomplishing something — even when your world is falling apart. Don’t get me wrong, your world doesn’t have to fall apart in order for you do something for someone else, but you will feel better — while in the process of making someone else feel better — and that’s even better than medicine. (Who needs med school, right?) Read the rest of this entry »

Time to Feng Shui My Life

Haven’t had time to post for awhile because I’ve totally caught the Cleaning Bug. Obsessed about clearing out the old so I can move onto the new, I’m so into disposing-of-the-unnecessary, I can barely sleep.  This goes for drawers filled with cards I’ll never read again, closets filled with clothes I’ll never wear again and albums filled with pics of people I’ll never see again. The process is really freeing and though I’m not exactly Fung Shui-ing my place, as I clear the clutter from my closets and from the crevices in my cranium, I do feel a new energy flowing from within and it makes me feel like dancing.

Letting Go…

My inner-YIN is teaching me to let go of the negative people in my life, like my old boyfriend Will the wannabe (with me for all the wrong reasons). And though I can’t change a way another person thinks or acts, like my frenemy B (so immersed in her own toxic negativity, she can’t get beyond it), I can choose to PASS on being a participant in her continuous Drama (I’m supposed to be a Comedy Girl, remember?) Feeling Pain and Hurting Others

Everyone’s on pins-and-needles in the ER. 24/7 an INVISIBLE STRESSBALL powers through Triage growing bigger and bigger — affecting everyone in its path. We deal with a MISHMOSH of PAIN from Patients, Family Members and Staff. Volunteers must juggle everyone’s Physical Pain, Emotional Pain, Pressure and Anxiety. Stressed-out people lose patience, get defensive, become argumentative and over-react. Everyone takes it out on each other. It’s UGLY!

This doesn’t even take into account what’s hiding in everyone’s baggage. I mean, almost everyone who’s an adult has some family member or loved one who’s fighting some sort of battle, whether it’s emotional or physical, not to mention that we all have things going wrong in our day on some level. Add to that indigestion, PMSing, bills we can’t pay and it’s a miracle we don’t all EXPLODE! Read the rest of this entry »

DIY Trick or Treat

Hole-y Halloween

Feeling a little HAUNTED by a current lack of SOMETHING?  (Should I blame the lack of attention from a certain doctor on the SHAKING EARTH — my lack of Auditions or FRANKENSTORM?)

“Too Much Time on our Hands” can be SCARY!

If you’re like me and too-in-your-head you might be able to TRICK YOURSELF with these GOOFY PROJECTS.  Oh no! I can see you’re already giving me the “UCH!” face — okay sure, maybe it’s a little lame but it’ll be funnnnn! And you’ll make people SMILE : ) Plus, with everything so expensive Halloween-wise, you’ll be glad to know these ideas are inexpensive (at the most you’ll need to run to CVS) — some are free if you have the stuff.  So get out your drill and glowsticks and give yourself some TREATS.

go out on a limb

HANDS-DOWN FAVORITE: Fill a latex-free glove with water and freeze before floating it in cranberry juice OR do it in reverse for a bloody hand effect (freeze the cranberry juice and float it in water). Read the rest of this entry »
