2011 Fall TV: LADIES GET THE LAFFS!
SOOOOO many shows! Not enough time to watch them all. But here are two getting a lot of BUZZZZZ…
TWO BROKE GIRLS
With the exception of THE GOOD WIFE, CBS isnt a network I usually watch a lot. But this season Im tuning in more now that Ashton has gotten me hooked on TWO AND A HALF MEN, followed by a new fave-in-the-making: TWO BROKE GIRLS.
Watching Kate Dennings (Max) and Beth Behrs (Caroline) bounce lines off of each other is like watching a great game of tennis, with both athletes playing at the top of their game. Maxs tough cookie with a heart of mush takes pity on Caroline the homeless heiress with a passion for positivity (my mom would love her!) Read the rest of this entry »
BEST ACCEPTANCE SPEECH: Working on it
Here’s the deal. I (like probably every Actor on earth) have an AWARD SPEECH playing and rewinding in my brain, ready for the BIG MOMENT. Revisions occur regularly after the OSCARS, EMMYS and SAG AWARDS each year and of course any time I’m about to get a BIG BREAK that’ll TOTALLY CHANGE MY CAREER! (Sound familiar fellow-Actors?)
Naturally I pay close attention to what works (luv’d Ty Burrell‘s “Tight Genes”speech) , what falls flat and what touches people (hi-five to Guy Pearce for inserting the raciest touch!) If the acceptance speech elicits laughs and tears it’s probably a good one, right? Read the rest of this entry »
INFOLIST: Oh, the possibilities…
Do you know about INFOLIST?
If you live in L.A. and you’re in or wanna be in: “The Business”– chances are you get emails from INFOLIST. It’s a free fun service that notifies you regularly about entertaining opportunities (NOT solicitations).
Right now for instance, you’ll see postings for—
- “fitness models wanted”
- “everyday people who love to dance (with crazy dance moves) wanted for national telecom commercial — huge pay!”
- “a Jeff Goldblum Concert”
- “a red carpet party with the SONS OF ANARCHY cast”
- “casting opportunity for a newborn baby on PRIVATE PRACTICE” Man, actors are getting younger and younger! Soon they’ll be casting embryos!

AWKWARD.
A W K W A R D. is my latest TV addiction!
And on MTV – who knew?
It’s about a girl who becomes popular for the worst reasons —
OK, yeah – I know I know. So that’s partially why I “get” JENNA and (need to) learn from her as she “acts” calmer than she feels in the red face of disaster. But, even if we weren’t on an embarrassing parallel universe — if we’d been in high school together, we would’ve bonded. And yeah, I can SO imagine Jenna living my life ten years from now (sorry, girlfriend but I’ll teach you how to modify the fugly outfit.) Yep. SOULMATES.
The writing’s smart and authentic. It’s kinda “My-So-Called-Life-ish“ — charmingly painful and painfully charming. I love that Jenna’s friends and frenemies aren’t cookie-cutterish. Like SADIE (short for “sadistic?”) –– I mean, she looks more Rosie O’Donnell than your typical high school she-devil, but was clearly trained in bitchery by Blair Waldorf! Preparing for TV Pilot Recasts: RESOURCES FOR ACTORS
httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r7v5zB-jg40
Pilot Recasts are just starting (condolences to the actor who’s already being recast on Prime Suspect.)
Truth is —
Actors must be RESOURCEFUL!
Know everything you can about: the Projects you’re auditioning for, the Execs behind them and the Coaches who’ll help get you there, so you can (sigh) —
BOOK THE JOB!
Here’s my updated list. (too bad Ute Hagen isn’t still around, but at least we can buy her book) Read the rest of this entry »
Annoying Accidents
OMG! I’m such a KLUTZ!
Before my 1:00 shift today I thought I could squeeze in a mani|pedi. (Wrong!) I was excited to look my best for my meeting tonight at Craigs with a up-and-coming Writer/Director. Apparently I miscalculated.
Upsettingly, the whole process took longer than usual (How would I know Nail Spa Lane would be busy on a Monday?) Realizing I was LATE, I ran through the alley, and hopped over a planter, but my flip flop got caught on the ledge and I landed face-down on the pavement. OUCH! Read the rest of this entry »
