ER Shift (oh yeah!)
Last night (after my my ER shift) something kinda magical happened. Can’t talk about it. Don’t want to jinx it. Let’s just say Volunteering in the ER has unexpected benefits. Well see…

Finding our Way (with a little help from our friends)

Ive noticed that I spend a lot of my volunteer shift just helping people who are lost find their way out of the hospital.
Our ER is in the East Tower but on Sunday nights theres only one Information Desk open and its in the West Tower, so the hospital tries to get everyone whos entering and leaving the hospital to do it in the west. So in the east, they dim the lights and block the exits, but all that means is — people are walking around totally disoriented in the dark. (OMG! I so know how they feel.) Healing Each Other in the Hospital
Last night before I went to my ER shift I knew I needed to come up with an idea for my #findthefunny Monday post and within the first half hour of getting there, a Cute Guy wheeled his Great Granny into Triage. Household Dangers: A Funny Ouch!

thumbs up for hot docs
I’ve always loved baking, but I tend to use every utensil and bowl in the kitchen, so doing the dishes is NOT my favorite thing.
Yesterday post yoga, after making three kinds of cookie dough (chocolate chip, pecan meltaways and cinnamon sugar) to freeze for holiday baking, I’m washing dishes when OWWWW… Read the rest of this entry »
Urgent Care in the ER

I couldn’t write about this till now, because it freaked me out so much when it happened. Even now I think about it every time I sit down to eat.

- nightmare waiting room
- all beds are filled
- labs are piling up
In Trauma, Bed 8, this pretty New York Model (you know I can’t say who) is really having a tough time of it. She’s been there for 14 hours with what she thinks is Acid Reflux (because she can’t keep anything down, not even a sip of water). She’s all nervous, because she’s got a wardrobe fitting scheduled in a few hours for a huge commercial, due to shoot Monday. Read the rest of this entry »
Feeling Safe: Knowns vs Unknowns
Why do we feel safe with KNOWNS when there’s often greater possibility with UNKNOWNS?
“Conundrumly-speaking,” why is it human nature to–
distrust CHANGE?
Working in the ER is a little like working in Washington – Read the rest of this entry »
ER Volunteer “Floater”
Okay, so it’s another Monday morning and since I don’t have an Acting job right now (or any job, sadly) I just called Charlayne and told her I’d be okay with “volunteering” to be a “Floater.” A Floater is someone who gets called in when a regular Volunteer has something going on in his/her life and since I don’t have much going on —
I’ll Float For Now —
When I can–
Till things pick up —
Which’ll hopefully be soon.
I’m already having second thoughts though–
Apparently now I have to go to the Annual Volunteer Meeting. Noooo! Next Saturday morning! (Good Times, right?) Read the rest of this entry »
