20-Something’s 20+ Things “To Do” (Fun & Mostly Free)

You taste it already (right?)

You taste it already (right?)

It’s January and time to start F R E S H. There’s this whole New Year ahead to get things right.

If you’re like me, your head gets in your way —
over-stressing, over-stressing, over-stressing.

My cranial conundrums are about nailing auditions, getting call-backs, staying optimistic, making life more meaningful, yada yada.

Surely you have a list of your own revolving worries. Everyone does.  So, to help with your head “aches,” here’s a list of —

Free and Almost-Free

Things to do to get you out of your head.

1) Re-organize your closet by color and get rid of anything you never wear (pretty AND practical.)

2) Re-arrange your living room furniture ( Time to Feng Shui-it for good luck. )

3) Do the Crossword Puzzle from the New York Times (stimulate those brain cells.)

4) Peruse fashion websites online (to make the most of what’s in your organized closet.)

5) Scan old pics from when you were little and post on Facebook (friends will ooh & ahh at how pretty your mom was or how cool your dad is)

6) Make a Jib Jab video with pics of friends or family members (guaranteed to brighten their day.)

7) Phone a friend you haven’t talked to in forever (re-connection is magic.)

8) Make a list of things you need to do that you’ve been procrastinating about (and do them!)

9) Make a list of things you want to happen in 2010 and read it every morning (it works!)

10) Shop for favorite rare vinyl titles on ebay (I find amazing deals and original pressings.)

11) Peruse kcrw’s playlist and search iTunes (and update your iPod.)

12) Take your dog for a walk, or if you don’t have one, take yourself (bring your iPod & kcrw finds.)

13) Bake a new cookie or cake from one of your favorite recipe books (my latest was carrot cake cookie sandwiches by Martha Stewart- YUM!)

14) Hang old-fashioned round Christmas lights in your dressing room/closet area and turn it into a magical girly vanity space (guaranteed merriment).

15) Change your screen saver on your computer to a picture of something that makes you smile every time you turn it on (ahhh!)

16) Paint one wall of one room (could be periwinkle or hot pink — just break up the white monotony.)

17) Hang the pictures you’ve stuck in the closet (your walls will thank you.)

18) Take a yoga, spin or boxing class if you haven’t (no one ever regrets working out.)

19) Sunday morning find a flea market (in L.A. we have a good one at Fairfax and Melrose.)

20) Knit! (easiest thing to learn and the best way to get into a non-thinking Zen-like state or just pass the time while waiting for yoga to start.)

21) Take your camera with you and capture whatever moves you (discover your inner photographic genius!)

22) Download new iPhone apps like vintage movie maker or hipstamatic (images recall the unpredictable beauty of your old toy cameras.)

23) Make an awesome and thoughtful mix for a friend or family member (or a Personalized Soundtrack for someone extra special.)

24) If it’s Tuesday spend some time on iTunes sampling the new music just released (I’m about to do that now.)

Have Fun!

I really need a number 18 in my life…another way to de-stress…I like your list…except for the cooking bit…I don’t like cooking or baking! 🙁

    • Evie...:

OK, so if you can avoid eating cookie batter (the best part of baking) you won’t have to do so many #18’s. 🙂

  • Evie...:

Ha! Then you need to do #1, #17 and #8 (I have no idea why that smiley face appeared instead of #8.) Thanks for the comment (I luv comments!)
