Frenemies: Stuck in the Past

lighten up

You know how when you step on gum, you can’t get it completely off? Your favorite shoes are never quite the same because part of the yuck stays with you wherever you go? Like you’ve tarnished your sole?

That’s kinda how my soul feels about an school friend “B” who has now come back to haunt me where I volunteer in the ER. Six years have past, we’ve both become adults (supposedly) and the guy who came between us is probably in some residential facility, or wearing an orange jumpsuit or pumping gas in Oxnard. Clearly he’s not a part of her life or my life, but for some reason his past connection has had an indelible effect on our frenemy-ship.  Sad…   Read the rest of this entry »

Finding the MOTIVATION

what drives you?

what drives you?

What do you thrive on?
What’s the air that you breathe?
What needs to be part of the mix, to keep you interested?

In ACTING we figure out our character’s “Motivation.” Have you ever tried that exercise in real life with the people you know? Have you ever tried it with yourself?

APPRECIATION
Mira, my good-karma gal-pal at the ER, will do anything and everything, as long as it’s appreciated.  She thrives on smiles, “thank you,” and people who say, “you’re an angel” (even when she’s not wearing wings). But take her for granted, and she’s instantly over it – ready to move on— done, NEXT!

LOVE
There’s an Actress in one of my Acting Classes (I can’t name-drop) who is always falling in love. Se throws herself completely into each and every new relationship. Sometimes her love connections last two years, sometimes two weeks. But no matter what, she’s never discouraged in her search for a soul mate. She’s certain he’s out there. She’s so totally open to “romantic possibility” and baggage-free, I envy her. Read the rest of this entry »

The Hunt for the Hottie

searching for "the one"

searching for “the one”

Rachel, my bff who knows where to find anything and everything (even though she rarely leaves Portland, Oregon) just turned me onto The Hunt, this rad site that helps you track down anything — if you’ve got a picture of it (like from Tumblr or Pinterest or Instagram). She just tracked down this cool Isabel Marant blazer she saw on Pinterest, but she didn’t even know it was Isabel, till The Hunt helped her find it.

Go for the goal…

But… if I’m gonna try The Hunt, I’m going to use it for the “greater Evie good” like tracking down the right role, the right man or the right salad. Read the rest of this entry »

Time to Feng Shui My Life

Haven’t had time to post for awhile because I’ve totally caught the Cleaning Bug. Obsessed about clearing out the old so I can move onto the new, I’m so into disposing-of-the-unnecessary, I can barely sleep.  This goes for drawers filled with cards I’ll never read again, closets filled with clothes I’ll never wear again and albums filled with pics of people I’ll never see again. The process is really freeing and though I’m not exactly Fung Shui-ing my place, as I clear the clutter from my closets and from the crevices in my cranium, I do feel a new energy flowing from within and it makes me feel like dancing.

Letting Go…

My inner-YIN is teaching me to let go of the negative people in my life, like my old boyfriend Will the wannabe (with me for all the wrong reasons). And though I can’t change a way another person thinks or acts, like my frenemy B (so immersed in her own toxic negativity, she can’t get beyond it), I can choose to PASS on being a participant in her continuous Drama (I’m supposed to be a Comedy Girl, remember?) Giving Thanks

Thanksgiving smells like my Mom. When the turkey’s in the oven, I swear my Mom’s still around. Her marinade of ketchup, cooking sherry and water makes the turkey crispy and the entire house delicious – all day, all night and even a little the next morning.

Keeping up with the Traditions —

My job is picking up the Turkey from Harvey’s Guss Meat Company (I order it in October). Harvey supplies meat to restaurants, so his hours are early — 7:00 AM to 12:00 noon. The day before Thanksgiving there’s not much traffic in the early hours (thankfully) and it’s especially wonderful when like today, the air’s a little chilly (by L.A. standards) and the sky’s blue-blue.
